New K9 Team at Sky Harbor Receives Honors

Michael Burzynski and Buck Sky Harbor’s Airport Police Bureau is pleased to welcome Officer Michael Burzynski and his canine Buck to the team. Both are part of a program that pairs TSA-owned, explosive detection dogs with Phoenix Police Airport Bureau Officers to keep the traveling public safe.

In May, Officer Burzynski traveled to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio to meet his new partner. Buck, a nearly two-year old black lab, was born at Lackland and is named after Greg Buck, a heroic firefighter who lost his life on 9-11. As part of the program, Officer Burzynski and Buck underwent 10 weeks of extensive training. At the end of the program, they were bestowed with the Top Dog Handler award. This award is given for outstanding handler abilities, dedication to the profession and overall exceptional achievement.

“It was a great and challenging experience for me,” said Officer Burzynski. “I am looking forward to getting Buck to work. He is full of energy and a terrific worker.”

Buck replaces Ori, who retired earlier this year. Congratulations to Officer Burzynski and Buck!
