East Economy Overflow Lot Closed
In conjunction with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is working to make improvements for easier access to and from the Airport on the east side. When construction is complete, drivers will be able to take State Route 143 directly into Sky Harbor from both the north and the south. Those exiting the Airport will be able to drive from Sky Harbor Boulevard directly onto the 143 southbound. This more direct route will be a major convenience for drivers who regularly use State Route 143 to access Sky Harbor.
Because of this, there has been a minor change in Sky Harbor’s East Economy parking area. The overflow lot for East Economy has closed. As of January 11, 2011, this lot, which is at the eastern end of the Economy Surface Lot, was closed and busing has stopped to that area of the parking lot.
So what does this closure mean for travelers? Generally, the majority of travelers have not noticed anything different as this has only impacted the far eastern end of the East Economy surface lot. Those who regularly park in the overflow lot have been able to find ample spaces in the East Economy garages or the main portion of the surface lot.
