Goodyear Airport Event Provides Special Opportunity for Children

Earlier this month, Goodyear Airport hosted their annual Sky Kids event. This event is a unique and special opportunity for children with special needs to pilot an actual plane! Through this wonderful adventure, Sky Kids hopes to help children gain self-esteem and confidence with the chance to be “in command” of a general aviation aircraft.

More than 200 volunteers and participants were on hand for the event to witness these exceptional kids finding a great sense of achievement through flight! Sixteen pilots generously volunteered to join the spirited kids in the air to aid in supervision and support of the rookie aviators. A number of other events were available for the children, such as face painting, a live clown and a Goodyear Fire Engine. A free barbeque lunch was available for the participants and their families. The Goodyear police K9 Unit also made a special appearance, joined by the Goodyear Police SWAT unit vehicle, “Big Bear Cat.” Several local schools helped coordinate the Sky Kids Event and a few of the schools even sent their cheer squads to honor the young pilots with a celebratory red carpet treatment, as their airplanes touched ground. There were many other kind-hearted sponsors including, Achen Gardner Construction, Project Servicing and Messaging, and the Goodyear Police Department.

The Sky Kids event was fun, exciting and successful. Most importantly, Sky Kids helped to raise the spirits of the children, which was the most rewarding part of the day.
