Sky Harbor’s Amelia the Airplane Entertains on Earth Day
Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport was a proud participant in the 40th Anniversary Earth Day celebration in downtown Phoenix. The event, held at Cesar Chavez Plaza, was hosted by Keep Phoenix Beautiful. Sky Harbor’s mascot, “Amelia” and a representative from the Navigator volunteer program participated in the Earth Day festivities, sharing information about Airport recycling programs.
The event featured more than 80 on-site exhibitors from community organizations to local businesses. Participants enjoyed receiving reusable recycle bags, free food and beverages, educational information and clothing from the vendor booths.
The Aviation Department Facilities and Services promote recycling by providing blue recycling bins throughout the airport terminals, offices and conference rooms. Items that can be recycled are: Aluminum Cans, Cardboard, Glass Bottle and Jars, Paper, Magazines, Catalogs, Phone Books, Newspapers, Plastic Bottles and Containers (#1 through #7), Steel and Tin Cans, and Scrap Metal under 25 pounds.
