Airport Contractor Goes Green with New Vehicles
ThyssenKrupp Elevator is the latest organization to embrace going green. Recently, the company has begun using purely propane vehicles. At Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, there is currently one vehicle in use with two more on order. Around Phoenix, there are a total of 11 propane vehicles in the fleet.
Phoenix Sky Harbor and the Phoenix area are the first of ThyssenKrupp Elevator service areas to have the propane vehicles. These vehicles are brand-new propane vehicles purchased directly from the factory. The vehicles are part of ThyssenKrupp Elevator’s efforts to be more environmentally friendly. Ninety percent of the propane production comes from the United States. By using propane, companies help support U.S. jobs. And, propane produces approximately 60 percent less carbon dioxide emissions, 24 percent less greenhouse gas emissions and 20 percent less nitrogen oxide emissions. The company hopes to later introduce propane vehicles in additional cities as it works on continuing to reduce fuel consumption.
Phoenix Sky Harbor is no stranger to using alternative fuel vehicles. In fact, our program is one of the largest in the country and we utilize CNG, bio-diesel and E85 fuel in our cars, buses and taxis. To find out more about our alternative fuel program, click here.
