Aviation Director Honored with Prestigious Award

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is pleased to announce that its Aviation Director, Danny Murphy, is the recipient of the Airport Revenue News (ARN) 2010 Director of the Year for the Large/Medium Airport Category.

In order to be considered for this award, ARN solicited for candidates by asking members of the airport industry to nominate their favorite directors. These directors had to excel in the categories of leadership, innovation, revenue generation, marketing, customer service, community service and proactive efforts to advance the airport industry. Those directors in each division who received the most number of nominations won the award.

Murphy, who has been with PHX Sky Harbor since 2006, is Aviation Director for not only PHX Sky Harbor but Phoenix Deer Valley and Phoenix Goodyear Airports. Murphy has a strong commitment to safety, customer service, and the community. And, he has worked hard with Airport staff to wisely use resources, to make processes work more efficiently and to remain under budget while still delivering outstanding services and facilities. In addition, under his guidance the Phoenix airports have received a variety of awards and honors ranging from several perfect FAA safety inspections to the Metropolitan Phoenix Chapter of Women in Transportation (WTS) 2009 Employer of the Year award.

"We are very proud to honor Danny Murphy with this distinction," says Pauline Armbrust, president and CEO of ARN. "He has proven himself to be a strong director and spearheading many capital projects important to the future of PHX. He is well-respected and beloved by his staff who say he is a very strong, hands-on leader and can be seen walking the terminals on a daily basis to speak with employees and experience the airport from his customers' perspective."

This award is exciting for both PHX Sky Harbor and Murphy. “To be recognized in this way by Airport Revenue News is truly an honor," says Murphy. "We at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport are proud of our comprehensive, customer-friendly concessions program. We wouldn't have such a successful Airport without the leadership of our Mayor and City Council, our Phoenix Aviation Advisory Board, and our excellent, dedicated staff."

Murphy will be interviewed in and featured on the cover of the December 2010/January 2011 year-end double-issue.
