TSA Showcases Firearm Travel Requirements
The Transportation Security Administration recently held a media availability in which they demonstrated how to properly pack and travel with firearms in checked luggage and provided information on prohibited items. TSA’s annual firearm discovery report for 2022 showed there were 196 firearm discoveries at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport security checkpoints over the course of the year.
TSA Officer Estrada demonstrated proper packing of a firearm and showcased select prohibited items that were discovered from local passengers traveling through security. A few key tips included arriving early, having the firearm locked in a hard-sided container and declaring it with the airline at check-in. Travelers who do not adhere to the requirements listed on the TSA website and are caught with a gun can face large fines, removal from TSA programs, and may be subject to further police investigation.
