New PHX Navigators

If you’ve ever needed help navigating America’s Friendliest Airport® you’ve probably been assisted by one of many volunteer Navigators in their notable purple jackets. The Navigator program, which started in 2000, is now welcoming another class of new Navigators.

In all, 23 new Navigators have started their onboarding journey to help passengers throughout Phoenix Sky Harbor. The new class began in early April and is being paired up with experienced mentor volunteers to learn about the airport for their first six weeks. This new Navigator class will bring the total number of Navigators at the airport to more than 360.

Fun facts about Phoenix Sky Harbor’s Navigator Program:

  • Nine volunteers have been at the airport since the very first year of the program 2000-2001.
  • 23 Navigators have volunteered for 20+ years.
  • 11 active volunteers are part of our “Compass Club,” recognizing those who have more than 5,500 Hours. Two of them have dedicated more than 10,000 hours.
  • Navigators have included spouses, siblings, and parent/child volunteers, even a grandparent/grandchild in the past.
  • Navigator volunteers past careers include teachers, doctors, nurses, social workers, judges, lawyers, pilots, airline staff, dentists, veterinarians and many more.
