Visit the Cultural Capital of Mexico
In 2023, Guadalajara, Mexico was named one by Travel and Leisure one of the top 25 readers’ favorite cities in the world. The city offers incredible cuisine and cultural activities. For example, did you know mariachi music originated from Guadalajara? Nonstop flights from Phoenix on American Airlines or Volaris, make this city easily accessible.
Here are some things to do while you’re there:
Take a walk through the Historic Center of town where you can see such sies as the Plaza de Armas, Plaza Tapatia, and Cathedral. The colonial architecture makes for some beautiful photos.
Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hospicio Cabañas. This museum and cultural center were originally an orphanage, but its unique architecture is a site to see. It also contains several modernist murals from José Clemente Orozco.
If you’re wanting to do a little shopping, stop by the Mercado San Juan de Dios.
The Tlaquepaque and Tonala neighborhoods also feature art galleries, markets, and more.
If you want to learn more about tequila, join a day trip to visit the nearby town of Tequila to learn about the process and sample different varieties.
