Spring Always a Busy Travel Seas
America’s Friendliest Airport® broke its record for passenger traffic with more than 48.8 million passengers flying through PHX last year, and March was again the busiest month of the year.
There’s a lot happening in and around Arizona during March with spring break travelers leading the charge. Major League Baseball Spring Training and NASCAR fans pour into Phoenix Sky Harbor and combine with Valley residents flying out for a school break getaway to make March the busiest travel month.
Passengers should plan ahead to ensure a smooth, safe trip through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Follow these travel tips:
Before You Leave Home
- Confirm your flight status with your airline. Go to com to check your flight status or to get your airline contact information. You can also view TSA Security Checkpoint wait times on the front page of the website and on the flight information screens in the terminals.
- Look through your bags for TSA Prohibited Items. Before leaving for the airport, check your carry-on bags or purses for items prohibited. Lots of things besides weapons are restricted from being carried on, checked, or both. In addition, travelers taking home a souvenir baseball bat from a spring training game need to place it in checked luggage. NASCAR fans will want to make sure to keep their programs in their carry-on bag.
- Book your parking early. Phoenix Sky Harbor has lots of convenient parking options in both terminal garages and economy lots, and our Loyalty Program makes it easy to earn points toward free parking.
- Reserve rental cars in advance. If you’re arriving and plan to rent a car, it is recommended to reserve a rental car in advance. Vehicles may be limited for walk-up customers.
- Get in line before you get here. If you want to save your place in the TSA Security Checkpoint line, check out the PHX RESERVE program. Schedule your time prior to arriving at the airport on our website. You can reserve your time up to six days in advance.
Once You Arrive
- Arrive early. Get to the airport at least two hours early if you are flying domestically, three if you are flying internationally. Give yourself plenty of time to get to your gate.
- Shop and relax. Visit the interactive maps on skyharbor.com to find out which restaurants and shops are near your gate.
- Explore some local art. Each terminal showcases art exhibitions created by talented Arizona painters, photographers, sculptors, and other artists. These beautiful Museum exhibitions can be seen both before and after security.
