Southwest Airlines Opens Expanded Technical Operations Facility
On Feb. 16, Southwest Airlines proudly unveiled its new Technical Operations Facility at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The project, which has been underway for the past few years, nearly doubles the size of the airline’s maintenance hangar. As part of this 90,000 square foot expansion, three new aircraft bays were added to the facility. This provides Southwest with the opportunity to work on up to five aircraft at one time, which creates operational efficiencies for the airline. In addition, the $100 million project also included a bigger facility for members of the airline’s Provisioning and Ground Support Equipment Maintenance teams.
Andrew Watterson, Chief Operating Officer at Southwest Airlines, said that the team’s work in this new facility not only supports the nearly 220 departures from Phoenix Sky Harbor but also supports Southwest’s western U.S. operation.
This facility marks continued investment by Southwest in our community. Learn more about the project at https://swamedia.com/releases/phoenix-hangar.
