Taxiway U Project Underway!
Construction of a new 2,000-foot taxiway has begun at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport with completion expected by mid-2027. This new taxiway will connect the north and south airfields on the west end of the airport, enhancing aircraft flow and streamlining airfield operations. The project will continue to unfold in several phases, encompassing major utility relocations, reconfiguring west airport roadways, and making upgrades to existing facilities, including the West Air Cargo and Aviation Facilities and Services Complex.
Some of the current project updates include:
- Refurbishment of an old Terminal 2 building into a new cargo building has begun. This will house tenants displaced by the project from existing West Air Cargo facilities.
- Reconfiguration of the Facilities and Services yard is taking place to clear space needed for the taxiway.
- Major excavation between Sky Harbor Boulevard and Buckeye Road between Copperhead and 27th Street is being performed to will ultimately create the space for a new bridge to carry the taxiway over the realigned roads.
- Relocation of utilities.
