2024 in Review: Here’s to More in 2025
Just one year after setting a record for the busiest year in its history in 2023, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport marked another historic milestone: More than 50 million passengers traveled through the airport in 2024.
The final numbers are still being tallied but we already know 2024 was a history-making year as the first time PHX surpassed 50 million passengers. This record number of passengers flying through PHX in 2024 is like a fine dessert following a full menu of gourmet food: From welcoming new airlines and routes to enhancing the passenger experience with innovative upgrades, Phoenix Sky Harbor achieved remarkable milestones in 2024:
- The Taxiway U project, a new 2,060-foot taxiway connecting the north and south airfields on the west end of the airport, officially kicked off construction.
- Air France launched the first-ever nonstop flight between Phoenix and Paris. Porter Airlines also joined the PHX family with daily flights from Phoenix to Toronto, and American Airlines launched new service between Phoenix and Tijuana, Mexico.
- The Phoenix Airport System contributed $44.3 billion to the local economy, reinforcing our status as Arizona’s largest economic engine.
- Customer participation remained strong or increased during our annual marquee events: the Aviation Business Summit, Wings for Autism, and 12 Days of Gratitude.
- We continued to host our award-winning Dementia Friendly Travel Workshop and are expanding it with a virtual option in 2025.
- We celebrated the grand opening of the highly anticipated Sapphire Chase Lounge by The Club, and also welcomed the Phoenix Magazine Café and Market, a new concept at the Rental Car Center.
- We launched our Green Business Partner Program to recognize those airport merchants who go above and beyond in adopting sustainable practices.
- We proudly accepted several awards including Employer of the Year from the WTS Metropolitan Phoenix Chapter, the Tempe Chamber’s Business Excellence Award, Airport of the Year from the Airport Minority Advisory Council, and the Regional Contribution Award from the Greater Phoenix Economic Council.
- Welcomed thousands of fans for sporting events hosted in the Phoenix area like the NCAA Final Four Championship, WNBA All-Star game, and NASCAR.
We hope you join us on our journey into 2025 when we celebrate our 90th anniversary of the city of Phoenix purchasing the airport. We can’t wait to see what more good things await!
