Navigator Can Food Drive Competition
The Navigator Volunteer Program's annual Can Food Drive Competition held in November highlighted the incredible generosity of our airport volunteers. Their collective efforts made a meaningful impact in supporting St. Mary’s Food Bank, one of Phoenix Sky Harbor’s Community Service Fund Drive agencies, and also helped those in need.
This was a friendly competition that truly brought out the enthusiasm and commitment among the 21 different volunteer shifts to making a meaningful impact. Each shift worked together to gather donations, focusing on the most-needed items identified by St. Mary’s Food Bank, like canned vegetables, peanut butter, canned fruit, cereal and pasta.
At the end of the two-week competition, the Friday mid-shift was declared the winner, collecting an impressive 292 food items. Second was the Thursday mid-shift with 200 items. The Friday mid-shift celebrated their success with a pizza party and will have the honor of having their shift name added to the Can Food Drive plaque in the Navigator office. However, the most significant accomplishment was the collective effort of all the Navigators. Together, they donated an impressive 1,046 pounds of food, which St. Mary’s Food Bank estimated to be equivalent to 872 meals for individuals and families in need.
Congratulations to all the Navigator shifts for their incredible contributions and a special shout-out to the Friday mid-shift for their well-earned win!
