Airport Partners Recognized for Achievements in the Green Business Partner Program

At the recent Aviation Business Summit, the City of Phoenix Aviation Department also recognized organizations that have made outstanding contributions in our Green Business Partner Program.

This program allows our business partners to voluntarily participate in a range of initiatives and receive recognition for their sustainable efforts. Participants in the program are encouraged to implement sustainable practices that align with our sustainability focus areas, such as energy efficiency measures, waste reduction strategies, responsible sourcing practices, water conservation efforts, and community engagement. The program currently has three tiers: green, silver and gold. Gold is the most difficult to achieve and requires the biggest commitment to embracing sustainable practices within a company.

Currently, Gold certified businesses in the Green Business Partner program have to already be doing 68% or more of the best identified practices. During the Aviation Business Summit, we recognized three companies that are certified Gold in our Program.

Blanco’s Tacos & Tequila, managed by HMS Host, was the first restaurant certified in the Green Business Program. Their active participation in the airport compost program and generous food donation initiative to the USO exemplify their commitment to the environment and community. A true leader in sustainability and community service, Blanco Tacos and Tequila exemplifies what it means to be a GOLD tier Green Business Partner.

As a GOLD tier Green Business Partner, and the first participant in the Green Business Program in the retail category, Paradies Lagardère exemplifies environmental stewardship at Phoenix Sky Harbor. Operating 14 retail stores across the airport, they've eliminated the use of soft plastic bags and offer a wide range of eco-friendly items with sustainable packaging. Their dedication to green practices extends to their annual Helping Hands event, where employees donate items, reinforcing their commitment to the community and sustainability. Paradies Lagardère truly sets a high standard for sustainable business practices within the airport.

The third company is PHX Beer Company. Operated by SSP America, PHX Beer Company, serves as a new leader in the PHX Green Business Partner Program achieving the GOLD tier. The restaurant has a dedicated food donation program and is a committed participant in the PHX food waste collection program designed to convert food waste into nutrient-rich compost. PHX Beer Company has also eliminated single-use plastics and has prioritized the use of reusable service ware. The restaurant continues to improve its operations and footprint in their partnership with the Green Restaurant Association.
