Phoenix Sky Harbor’s Future Friendly Sustainability Goals Hit High Marks

Being America's Friendliest Airport® means more than making sure our passengers have an exceptional experience at our airport, it is ensuring that as a business we are protecting the environment and the resources of Arizona. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s commitment to being future friendly and an industry leader in sustainability was recently recognized by the Airports Council International’s Airport Carbon Accreditation Program (ACA). Phoenix Sky Harbor received the Level 4 “Transformation” rating for reporting year 2021. Phoenix Sky Harbor is currently the only airport in the U.S. to have achieved the Transformation certification, and only one of three airports in the U.S to have achieved the Level 4/4+ rating tier.

Additionally, the airport is embarking upon an ambitious plan to reach net carbon zero emissions by 2040 – a decade ahead of global and industry goals. The plan is outlined in a recent report called A Roadmap to Net Carbon Zero.

The airport has also already been recognized for its efforts. Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA) recently presented this year’s Environmental Achievement Award for a Large Airport to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport for the newly opened Eighth Concourse in Terminal 4.  This award recognizes Phoenix Sky Harbor’s focus on reducing environmental impacts when constructing a new concourse.
