Recycling is deeply ingrained in Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The Airport has been recycling since 1989, however, with stricter recycling standards and the lack of standardization in recycling, passenger confusion often caused contamination with collection. The Airport found innovative solutions to ensure less contamination and increase recycling education standardization.

Colocation of waste and recycling collection units, sortation information, and recycling educational posters are located around the Airport. However, as an international airport the sustainability team wanted to ensure this message was taken a step further and accessible to as many of our passengers as possible.
