First Look Behind the Scenes at the 44th Street PHX Sky Train™ Station
Phoenix, AZ – Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton gave members of the media a preview of the 44th Street & Washington PHX Sky Train™ station today. He was joined by several of his colleagues from the Phoenix City Council.
"Today represents another major milestone with the PHX Sky Train™,” said Stanton. “Each day brings us closer and closer to completing this vital project. The future success of Sky Harbor is the future success of our City.”
The electrically-powered, automated PHX Sky Train™ will transport travelers between light rail at 44th Street and Washington, East Economy Parking and Terminal 4, which serves 80% of Sky Harbor’s passengers.
"When the PHX Sky Train™ opens in early 2013, the 44th Street station will serve as a new gateway to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport," said Councilman Daniel Valenzuela.
The ride between the 44th Street Station and East Economy Parking is just 3 minutes with an additional 2 minutes to Terminal 4.
"PHX Sky Train™ stations will include state-of-the-art amenities such as Early Bag Check, boarding pass printing kiosks and pet parks," said Councilman Bill Gates.
The PHX Sky Train™ will run 7 days a week, 365 days a year beginning early 2013, and will be free of charge. The PHX Sky Train™ will serve Terminal 3 with a walkway to Terminal 2 by early 2015 and will continue to the Rental Car Center in its final stage.
“This 44th Street station is a visible sign that the PHX Sky Train project is on track and will soon deliver a whole new level of service to the City,” said Vice Mayor, Michael Johnson.
